In The Forest of Lost Souls, Dean Koontz blends suspense, mystery, and a touch of the supernatural in a story centered on Vida, a fiercely independent young woman raised in the wilderness by her great-uncle. She has an unusual connection to nature, especially the wolves that inhabit the mountains around her home.
After the death of José Nochelobo, the man she loves, Vida begins to suspect that the official story surrounding his death is not true. Her search for answers puts her in the path of powerful and dangerous men who would rather see her disappear than have the truth exposed. What follows is a tense fight for survival as Vida relies on her instincts, her knowledge of the forest, and the strange forces that seem to surround her.
The novel explores themes of good versus evil, corruption, love, loss, justice, and the bond between people and the natural world. It is a strong choice for readers who enjoy Dean Koontz’s combination of thriller, suspense, and supernatural elements.
